Nursing Education
The need to provide the network with sufficient numbers of appropriately trained and motivated nursing staff has resulted in the investment of two nurse educator posts within the network. The nurse educator's will be the joint lead for education and training of nursing and midwifery staff in the neonatal units within the neonatal network (BAPM 2001, DH 2003). One post will work predominantly in the Shropshire and Staffordshire neonatal units and their counterpart will work predominantly in the Black Country neonatal units. Working together with existing clinical and academic staff, the aim of these posts are to develop and coordinate an evidence-based comprehensive education service for staff caring for neonates within the network, ensuring this relates to the needs of the patients and is in line with the National Service Framework (NSF), NICE guidance and the 10 Key Roles for Nurses and Midwives.
Details of training programmes and education resources developed for staff within the network will be added to this page as they become available.
