Parents Introduction
This part of the website is specifically for parents, relatives and friends of babies admitted to the neonatal units within the network.
Having a baby admitted onto a neonatal unit is very stressful for parents, relatives and friends. The staff on the neonatal unit will explain why the baby needs to be on the neonatal unit. Parents will be encouraged and supported to care for the baby whilst he or she is on the neonatal unit in preparation for the time when the baby is ready to leave the neonatal unit.
Working together as a network enables the concentration of skills and expertise where they are required in the network, offering families access to appropriate care as close to home as possible whilst minimising transfers for intensive care to those which are really necessary.
If your baby can not be cared for on the neonatal unit nearest to your home, the reason why will be explained to you. Arrangements to transfer your baby back to the local neonatal unit will be made as soon as possible. Occasionally, your baby may be discharged home before a transfer back can be arranged.
We have included some useful links to organisations and support groups. These can be found on our parent information page.
If you have had a baby cared for on one of the units in the Network this year and are able to spare the time we would be grateful if you would complete our Parent Experience Survey 2008 and give us your feedback on the care you and your baby received. If you would like to make a more general comment please use the contact us button at the top of the site.
